The Senior Awards Night for the Greene County Class of 2022 was held May 17 at the school auditorium.
Valedictorians for the class are Oliver Andre, Veronica Johnson and Eliot Schilling. Salutatorian is Brenner Gallagher.
Seniors were recognized for a variety of accomplishments during their high school years.
Veronica Johnson was honored for performing and documenting community service during her high school years.
LifeServe Blood Center honored seniors who have donated blood at least four times during high school, including Isaac Anderson, Afton Funcke, Jessamae Strennen and Lyndsey Zahradnik.
Recipients of the Seal of Biliteracy, awarded by the World Languages department, were Veronica Johnson, Oliver Andrey, Eliot Schilling and Paton-Churdan graduate Megan Palmer. The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes students who have attained proficiency in two or more languages, one of which is English.
Oliver Andre eceived the Des Moines Register’s Academic All-State recognition. Veronica Johnson received the Governor’s Scholar Award.
The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference presented medals to student athletes who met a minimum grade point average. Receiving the medals were Brenner Gallagher, Jackson Morton, Max Riley, Bryce Stalder and Caden Telleen.
The Bernie Saggau Award was presented to Caden Telleen. Brianna Habben and Bryce Stalder were the female and male Ram of the Year respectively.
The Greene County Bar Association presented the Iowa Bar Association’s American Citizenship Award to Caden Telleen and Brianna Habben.
Students were recognized for completing programs at the Greene County Career Academy as follows – Isaiah Hinote and John Sprague, construction/building trades; Avery Walker, health care; Max Riley and Logan Higgins, agricultural information technology; and Mikey Smith, advanced manufacturing.
All graduates were awarded a $500 Greene County Foundational Scholarship from the Greene County Educational Foundation. This was the fourth year for the $500 awards that are given regardless of each recipient’s future plans.
Students who received $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Blake Hamann, Jackson Morton, Caden Telleen, Brayton Kohl, Brenner Gallagher, Afton Funcke, Max Riley, Addison Adcock, Brianne Ball, Rylie Moranville, Jessamae Strennen and Sadie Reedy.
